Would you treat non-religious people (Americans) equally?
I always try to treat ALL people equally. I fall short sometimes! You might say, some don't deserve it, but it is not my position to judge. You never know when God will send someone to you. It could be a crack addict, a prostitute, or etc. If you mistreat them, it is not good in God's eyes.
I went to this church with my grandson. The members were very anti-sociable. When I decided to join (based on the sermons and service) that is when the members wanted to socialize with me and their kids wanted to play with my grandson. This action caused me to not join at all. Why? Because it was at that time I knew, that was not the church for me. Anyone should be welcomed in God's house and they should feel that they are. I did not think it was a Godly thing to treat us as outcasts until we wanted to join. For all they know, God could have sent me to that church.
I agree. Churches miss new members and run members away when they don't have a warm, welcoming environment. Many times in the past I have stopped attending churches when I feel like an outcast. A woman at the church I attend now made a very good point in bible study a few weeks ago. We were discussing the chapter in the book of John when Jesus turned water into wine. Everyone was caught up over the fact that it looks bad when Christians drink even if they don't get drunk. The woman stated that Christians should be just as adamant about how we treat people. Meaning that if we tell church goers that they shouldn't drink or do other things, we should also be telling them that they shouldn't mistreat people whether they are Christian or not. We should greet everyone with a smile and always have an open heart. How can we call ourselves Christians if we don't? Also, I try not to judge people but I know I'm not perfect. The thing I try to remember is that I wouldn't want someone judging me for who I am or what I do, so I try not to judge.
I could not have said it better myself. Thanks
