Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself. My name is "God's Leading Lady" and I was referred to this forum by Beehoney herself. I am a member of the AOL Black Voices forum where she posted for the first time recently. She seems very intelligient and I just wanted to support her forum and exchange knowledge from one believer to another.

Thanx for having me! Innocent

Hello Godsleadinglady! I am happy you joined us. Thank you for your words.

I am trying to make it where we can send comments back and forth. LOL! I like sending colorful comments. Do you have a thread on BV?

Hello and welcome to our family!

I read about your hurricane Katrina incident. WOW! God is good isn't he?! I heard about it on the news and rented that spike lee video. It had me in tears! I am happy to hear you and your sons got out safely.

Do you miss New Orleans? I've heard the people loved their city so much that they did not want to leave. I guess history, tradition, and etc has a lot to do with it. I wish we could have done more for the victims of hurricane Katrina.

Hello newest member,
Glad you joined us!

So tell me, was it as bad as they said on the news? I mean the Hurricane KATRINA? I saw it but could not believe it. That hurricane was so destructive and I've never seen anything that destructive.

We have tornadoes here, but they are mild in comparison to Katrina. Just two months ago, we had a series of earthquakes. Still no comparison to Katrina

My heart went out to each victim!! I cried, but many of you all are STRONG! I would have been so scared and distraut about losing my home that it probably would have killed me.

Glad to know you and the kids are fine.

Yes, God is GOOD!!! I miss New Orleans alot. Even though it is being "re-built", I have alot of good memories there. The media only spoke of the bad when covering anything about New Orleans, so when Katrina damaged the entire city, people were like "That's good for them", or "That city was messed up anyway". New Orleans is rich in culture, I miss Mardi Gras. Back in the day, the Mardi Gras Parade Krewes were formed by the white elites, and blacks and other ethnic groups were excluded from Mardi Gras celebrations. Many of the Krewes are "secret societies", and you can only become a member by invitation or blood relation.

A strong bond was developed as the Indians and slaves inter-married, and fought side by side against the white colonials. As a debt of gratitude to the Native Americans, the black community pays tribute to them during Mardi Gras.

Adding to the mix of African and Indian culture, when people from the Caribbean migrated to New Orleans, their culture was also incorporated into the costumes, dances and music by the Mardi Gras Indians. There are over 30 independent tribes who are basically organized  as the Uptown Indians and the Downtown Indians. We (my family & I) are part of the Uptown Indians.

WOW! That's good history! I've always wondered about the culture there. People from there speak so highly. That is a blessing because many of us don't have rich culture to be proud of. So tell me, creole is Indian and black mixed? I always wanted to go to the mardi gras there, but always ended up doing something else.
I apologize if I appear to be rambling but it is always interesting to me to hear about other cities, countries, etc and the different cultures. LOL! Thanks for sharing

Hello Ms Godsleadinglady! Sometimes I wished I grew up in New Orleans because of the traditions. We have NONE here! LOL! At least not any good ones. Although, I would not want to have been there when Katrina hit. God bless
